The Way That Is True to You: Reflections from a Weekend of Reiki Training

A couple of weeks back, I spent a beautiful weekend in Crewe, immersed in traditional teachings from the system of Reiki. These practices for rediscovering our true nature—including hands-on healing—are passed down from teacher to teacher, all the way back to Japan in the 1920s (and in reality, far beyond!). I love learning through different lineages; it’s such a gift to be in the presence of different teachers.

If you’re curious, here are my biggest takeaways—messages that resonated deeply with my heart during the weekend. These reflections may or may not speak to you, but I’ve included a couple of journal prompts for each in case they inspire you to go deeper into what they might mean for you.

Healing, rediscovering our inherent wholeness, befriending all parts of ourselves – is vulnerable, often scary, deep work. Which is why finding the support, guidance, and tools to support us along the way is so important. I came away feeling moved and inspired, with a vibration of vulnerability yet a softness in my heart. Also pretty exhausted! But in a good way.

So here goes:

1. There’s No One “Right Way”

Support your journey in the ways you feel called to: complete trainings, immerse yourself in teachings, find teachers who inspire you and offer support, give your full-hearted attention to the practices that nourish you and support your expansion.

But know this: the magic—the miracles beyond your wildest dreams, new realms of expansion and healing, and a sense of freedom from deep within—come in discovering the path, and the way, that is uniquely yours.

It’s in holding what you learn with a light, grateful touch and gentle curiosity. It’s in choosing, again and again, to trust in yourself and the way that’s unfolding before you—moment by moment.

Notice where you may be clinging too tightly to a teaching or practice, comparing yourself to others, or thinking there’s a single “right” way. These are signs to soften. Soften in body, in mind, in heart. Trust that you’ve got this. There is no right or wrong way—only the way that is true for you when you show up with presence.

It’s a journey of coming home to yourself. The deeper you go into presence, the clearer everything becomes.

When you’re true to yourself—without comparing, without measuring—what unfolds is pure gift.

Journal prompts for reflection:

  • Where in my life do I feel I’m holding on too tightly to a “right” way of doing things? What would it feel like to soften and trust my own process?
  • In what areas of my life do I find myself comparing my journey to others? How can I honour my unique path without judgment?
  • What does it mean to me to trust the unfolding of my life, moment by moment?

2. Can Every Aspect of a Life Be a Pathway to Freedom?

Perhaps every aspect of life has value; perhaps it all counts— the joys, the pain, the mundane, the sacred. Relationships, challenges, successes, failures, healing work, stuckness— it’s all part of it.

Maybe, freedom isn’t the ultimate destination. Maybe it’s what’s available to us right now, in this moment, if we look beyond the veil of our conditioning, limiting beliefs, the mental chatter, the stories and narratives we are holding onto, about ourselves and the world around us. If we pause to ask, is this the truth of who I am? Who am I behind the doubts, fears?

Perhaps really and truly, nothing is wasted. Even the things we resist or wish away are invitations to return to ourselves more fully. Perhaps every moment can be a teacher, a mirror, or a stepping stone.

This doesn’t mean we have to force ourselves to find the silver lining or dismiss the pain we may experience. It means we meet ourselves where we are, with tenderness and compassion. From there, we can gently ask: what might I be learning here? What truth is being revealed that’s pointing me toward freedom that is mine right here and now.

Journal prompts for reflection:

  • What challenges or difficult moments am I currently facing? How might they be guiding me toward deeper freedom or self-awareness?
  • Are there any experiences I’ve resisted or wished away that, upon reflection, hold wisdom for my personal growth? What can I learn from them?
  • How can I practice meeting myself with more tenderness and compassion in the moments when life feels hard or uncomfortable?

3. Let It Go

Let go.

Allow what is. Let it rise. Then gently let it go.

The fear. The doubt. The overthinking and procrastination that pulls you out of the present. Acknowledge it. Thank it. And release it—to the divine, to the universe, to spirit.

You don’t have to carry it alone.

The rest will take care of itself.

Journal prompts for reflection:

  • What thoughts, fears, or doubts am I holding onto that no longer serve me? How can I gently release them?
  • In what areas of my life do I tend to overthink or procrastinate? How can I bring myself back into the present moment with more ease?
  • What would it feel like to surrender control in certain areas of my life and trust that things will unfold as they should?
